The Henrys
For multiple reasons, It’s been a year since I posted an article. Sad, but true.
The year has flown by, and I feel like I’ve accomplished nothing.
It’s actually been a very busy year, and I’ve accomplished a lot!
Instead of going on about what I haven’t accomplished this year, I want to tell you about one big thing I did accomplish —
I photographed a wedding, and it’s been a very, very long time since I’ve done that.
The Henrys
But, this story isn’t about me, it's about the collective power of family, friends, and love and how that can make dreams come true.
Cam and Sam
You may be out of the loop, but weddings have become very expensive. Venues, event planners, caterers, flowers, hair and makeup, photographers, videographers, content creators, dresses, suits, tents, chairs, doves, pigeons, donkeys, llamas — whatever your heart desires and your wallet can stand. It’s overwhelming.
Enter Camryn and Samuel — a young couple who simply wanted to be married and start their lives together, yet found themselves faced with the daunting task of planning a wedding, selling a kidney to fund it, or standing on the courthouse steps.
Marlene and Kayli
This is where the bond and dedication of family come in. Camryn’s great-aunt Marlene offered to host the wedding at her residence, and the rest of the extensive family rallied and volunteered to help organize and execute the entire event. Marlene’s daughter, Kayli, is an amazing baker and made the wedding cake. The family worked on the event plans and the yard for months to get it ready, and even when the forecast turned to rain on the wedding day, tents were ordered just in case.
During the months leading up to the wedding, Laura (Camryn’s aunt) got a phone call from her mom saying that the photographer Camryn and Sam had booked was unable to shoot the wedding, and she asked if I would be willing to step in. I agreed! Quick shout-out to Laura for the amazing assist on the wedding day — we make a great team! I was a bit rusty, to say the least, but luckily Camryn had hired a content creator, Morgan, who was a huge help in getting the shots we needed.
So how did the day turn out? Well, it did rain — but only a little bit during the reception — and the wedding party got to dance in the rain! The best part, when the rain stopped, was the sunset rainbow. Who gets a rainbow at their wedding? What an amazing day that showed what the power of love, family, and friends can accomplish. I was honored to be a part of it. Sam is currently pursuing a career as a firefighter/paramedic and Camryn is working with social media content creation.
Congratulations to the Henrys — and stay tuned! I hope you’ll stay subscribed, because I’m back. The next article, coming up shortly, is about everyone’s favorite local Fernandina legend: Paul Lore.
